NH residence until it is sold but will
spend considerable time at Castle Halloween especially during Sept and Oct.
Anyone expecting a haunted house type attraction will be sorely
disappointed, as this is not what Castle Halloween is about. It is more like
dumping a bag of wonderful trick or treat candy in front of a group of
children, which is to be the many dimensional aspects and artifacts produced
for Halloween and its companion related subjects over the past two hundred
years. Paintings and postcards, fortune telling paraphernalia and costumes,
candy containers and toys, are just some of the items that will be on
display. No scares or screams just thrills and smiles as the museum is to be
both educational and entertaining.
Old time radio and modern radio drama and music related to the subject
can be heard and live readings, book signings, and signings by folk artists
are planned. Museum hours will be 9:30- 4:30 . Because of a prior
commitment to do a major display in Atlantic City the Museum will not be
open October 12 through the 18th.
Ms Apkarian Russell, trade marked the Halloween Queen is a frequent
guest on radio programs and is often off giving lectures, exhibits and
appraisals, as well as reading aloud some of the many ghostly stories she
has written over the years. She is also, quite active in audio theater both
as an author and as an actress. Her appraisals are not only on Halloween
items but as an antique dealer for thirty five years she is well know for
her general knowledge as well as specialty in vintage postcards and paper
Americana, as well as holiday items. The shop will carry a general line of
antiques and collectibles as well as over one million vintage postcards. Her
articles, book, and columns on postcards appear both here and abroad.
It is hoped that eventually volunteers and grants will be found to
help with some of the many projects that need to be done on the old Boggs
Run Road School so that the museum can stay open much of the year. The
museum will be applying for non profit status. At present with so many major
renovations to be done as well as museum work, the couple are slightly more
than overwhelmed at the enormity of the undertaking turning the long empty
building into a gothic pile and a home. "Life long dreams are worth working
your fingers to the bone I just wish the deer wouldn't eat all the
landscaping faster than we can plant the flowers, herbs, and trees." On Sept
1st when the doors open there will not be public facilities and the
landscaping will be meager but the spirit of the museum and the innocent
merriment of Halloween will be more than evident.
