Canadian-Exclusive Barbie(R) Doll Arrives in Stores Inuit Legend Barbie(R), one of the first Barbie(R) Collector Dolls designed and retailed exclusively in Canada, is set to hit store shelves on Monday, July 18, 2005.
News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - TORONTO, July 14 /CNW/ - She may have been everything from an astronaut
to an Olympic athlete, but in 2005, Barbie(R) doll boasts a distinctly
Canadian twist. Inuit Legend Barbie(R), one of the first Barbie(R) Collector
Dolls designed and retailed exclusively in Canada, is set to hit store shelves
on Monday, July 18, 2005.
Inuit Legend Barbie(R) is the original design of Ryerson University's
School of Fashion student Christy Marcus, who was selected as the winner of a
2004 competition presented by Mattel Canada in partnership with Ryerson.
Entitled "What Will Barbie Wear in 2005?", the competition celebrated
Barbie(R) doll's 45th anniversary by giving students the opportunity to design
a Barbie(R) Collector Doll based on their unique vision for the world's
quintessential fashion icon.
"There has been an unprecedented amount of anticipation for Inuit
Legend(TM) Barbie(R) since the design was unveiled last year," says Wendy
Ward, Collectibles Business Manager for Mattel Canada. "It is a tremendous
honour for Canada to have its own Barbie(R) Collector Doll, and Christy's
design does us proud."
Inspired by Marcus' Inuit heritage, the doll wears a parka-inspired
faux-fur trimmed composition with vibrant painted panels reminiscent of Inuit
prints, with contrasting muted colours on the skirt and bodice. The doll's
brunette hair is beautifully styled in a side braid.
"Designing the costume for Inuit Legend(TM) Barbie(R) is a dream come
true," says Marcus, who will begin the final year of her program at Ryerson in
September 2005. As the newest designer for Barbie(R) doll, Marcus joins the
ranks of Kate Spade, Bob Mackie, Giorgio Armani and many other legendary
names.
"It is very exciting for both Christy and Ryerson University's School of
Fashion to have had this opportunity. For Christy to have her work included
with some of the world's most significant designers is a tribute to her
talent. We are grateful to Mattel for this terrific initiative," says Linda
Lewis, Chair of the Ryerson University School of Fashion.
